This Christmas we actually put up lights!
Happy Holidays! So much has happened in the past year and this teeny tiny home has taken us on quite the journey. I’m happy to report that all is merry and bright on our 2nd Christmas in the Tiny House.
As you know, we try to be eco-friendly with our electrical use, so for our holiday lighting we purchased solar-powered LED strand lights. Usually I’m an “all-white-Christmas-light-kind-of-girl,” but Guillaume convinced me to step outside of my comfort zone with colorful lights. I’m actually really happy with how they came out. It somehow seems more festive to have colored lights.
We used five 20 foot strands of icicle lights to wrap around the eaves of the house and one 72 foot strand of fairy lights to decorate the porch, porch post and circle window. I wish I had a few more strands to wrap around all the windows and the dormers. I guess that will be the goal for next year!
We spent $115 on Christmas lights, which is more than I wanted to spend, but they work great. The tiny solar panels get enough sun to charge the LED strands, which turn on after sunset. They stay on for about 6-8 hours depending on the setting, which is enough time for me. We have some of the strands set to “blink” mode, which saves on battery and appears to make our home dance to Jingle Bell Rock.
As for the interior, I kept it simple. I used one strand of LED battery powered lights to create a tiny wall-mounted Christmas tree.
My mother decided to downsize her enormous Christmas decoration collection, so I grabbed a few ornaments and Santa Clauses to throw around the tiny house (thanks Mom). I’ll donate them after the holidays.
Below is a photo of my favorite item that I scored from my mom’s collection – ski bum Santa! It’s perfect decor for our tiny home, considering we are parked near a ski resort for the winter season.
So happy for you three!! my husband and I sold our 3200 sq ft. house and have a tiny house on wheels in the middle of the woods in upstate ny. would love it if/when you are on the road again, for you to “stop in” and visit. we will be traveling sometimes, but for the most part we will be spending our time in the woods. Life IS grand!!!!

Thank you! We enjoyed Upstate NY but were only there briefly. We’ll have to come back on day.

That’s awesome to hear! Glad you found us! We actually have another NEW show coming to HGTV, premiering on January 1st at 3pm EST / 2pm CST. It’s about our travels as we meet other Tiny Home owners on the road. We’re really excited about it. Check it out if you can. It’s called “Mighty Tiny Homes”
Although I’m 68 yrs old, Widowed, with no children, I am an avid Tiny House lover! Don’t have one but I dream. I even have it all designed in my head and on paper. I am a disabled Sr. Citizen on Social Security. I presently live in about 600 plus square feet. Though I’ve been working at pairing down. Want Victorian style. Also hope to put it on a foundation as it is in the picture. Solar, Rain water collection & Filters. Only thing is I will need Sewer for body waste and Washer/Dryer brown water. I live in Knoxville, Tn 37918. Very small budget. Social Security is a limited income, as we all know. Wish there was a way I could share with you all stories & ask questions. Like the Tiny House Nation. Am looking forward to the new series on HGTV, Tiny House, Giant Journey. Good luck.
Love what you’ve done for the holidays–I really like the simple tree on the wall. I’m also glad that things are going well for you in your tiny house. I first saw you on one of the HGTV tiny house shows going through the process of building your house on your own–quite a feat and very brave of you. But I didn’t know about your blog until today–glad I found it (through Kent Griswold’s “Tiny House Blog”). I would love to have a tiny house someday, but right now it’s just a dream–plus I’m close to 70, not exactly spry like you guys. Hope you’re having a peaceful and lovely holiday.
