Happy New Year from Tiny House Giant Journey

Happy New Year from Tiny House Giant Journey

tiny house gjWe are looking forward to a new year in our Tiny Home!

Happy New Year! Guillaume and I have now lived in our tiny home for 16 months and, I have to admit, it feels like a lot longer. That might sound like a strange statement to make, almost as if I don’t enjoy the lifestyle, but what I mean is that I feel very comfortable in my tiny abode. Tiny is my normal.

Humans are extremely adaptable creatures. It doesn’t take long for each of us to become accustom to our surroundings and to accept the misgivings we deal with on a day to day basis. Do I miss having an oven? Sure, but I’m also used to not having one. Do I sometimes wish for more privacy? Of course, but I’m also reminded of what an extra room would mean in my life: more space to clean, more belongings, and more money to pay for it.

This past year we traveled from the Florida Keys to the Arctic Circle in Alaska, and finally to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. Along the journey, we met hundreds of tiny home owners and like-minded individuals. We wrote about our travels and experiences on this blog with beautiful photographs and detailed videos. We made improvements to our tiny home while on the road, including the addition of a television projector and a downstairs fold-out bed. We grew as a couple, experienced new cultures, learned from the environment, improved our careers, made long lasting friendships, fulfilled our dreams and created memories.

Throughout our year of travels, we savored the happy moments but also endured sadness and frustration. We spent thousands of dollars on truck maintenance when our Ford F-250 broke down, time and time again. One time, stranded and desperate, we broke into our own tiny house. And finally, we were served a “tiny house eviction,” which was the ultimate low of our trip.

We weathered the storm and grew stronger and more knowledgable from our experiences. In turn, this past year, we taught tiny house workshops and hosted a new Tiny House TV show for HGTV.

Looking Forward to 2016

Guillaume and I have no idea what 2016 may hold. Perhaps we will do another USA / Canada trip when the snow melts this spring. We also might purchase a plot of land and begin building another tiny structure. Or, we might travel to France and build ourselves a European tiny house!

No matter what we decide to do, we have these opportunities because of our choice to live tiny. Thank you for continuing to support us by reading this blog, watching our YouTube channel, and following us on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

Cheers to another year tiny!

I’m making plans for my truckhouse. Considering the problems you’ve had with your truck engine, does it make you wish you hadn’t built your house on a truck instead on on a trailer. I worry about that happening to me, I’m a single 60 yr old woman.

Our house is on a trailer… We wish we had bought a different truck to tow our house around.

Where in Colorado are you located? I’m just beginning my tiny house journey and I am seeking “role models”, if you will, to help guide me in my decision making.

You’re two of the few people who actually travel in your tiny house. It is a testament to the quality of your house’s construction. I am continually in awe of your achievement and also of your travels.

You’re one of my greatest inspirations for me to eventually build my own.

Wishing you all the best for 2016
(And wishing myself to finally pay off my debt and get saving for my THOW)
