Her Bus Conversion Was Inspired by Ellen Degeneres

Randy Hulse is the ultimate Ellen Degeneres fan. She’s also a minimalist, and so when she decided to renovate an old school bus, she couldn’t think of a better name than Ellen DegenerBUS. Read on to learn how this gal is changing her life with the help of this quirky skooly.

Watch a video tour of Ellen DegenerBUS:

A few years ago, Randy had an apartment in Seattle and was working a good job in the city. But she wanted to do something “more” with her life than work a 9-5 job just to pay her high rent. Instead, Randy wanted to do good deeds and make people smile – like her hero, Ellen Degeneres does every day. In order to free up her finances and explore new opportunities, she decided to downsize.

Randy spent a lot of time researching different options – such as vans, Tiny Houses, and bus – and then, one day, she found a colorful school bus for sale online and fell in love. She jumped on a plane and flew to Arizona, bought her beloved bus, and drove it back to Washington. And so Randy’s journey began.

Ellen DegenerBUSSince buying the bus almost two years ago, Randy has redone the roof, skylights, put in new flooring, installed a wood stove, and redesigned the interior layout. Future projects include installing a compost toilet and building an indoor shower, but Randy is already living in Ellen DegenerBUS on her parent’s property. The renovations have been challenging, but Randy says that it has already been a rewarding experience.

Randy’s goal is the take her bus on the road when it’s complete. She is going to live nomadically, working as a hairstylist and artist to fund her travels. She also plans to use her bus as a catalyst and inspiration to make the world a better place. And, of course, she’d love it if Ellen Degeneres wanted to go for a ride one day!

“I love the positivity she (her bus) brings. I’m all about it.” – Randy

In my tiny house exploration, came upon your video. Love everything about it, including the inspirational name you choose for your self & your home. What is the square footage?

I’m not sure what the square footage is of this bus. Perhaps about 250? Thanks for checking it out.
