Family with Two Teenagers Live in a Gorgeous Skoolie

Family with Two Teenagers Live in a Gorgeous Skoolie

This week’s featured Tiny House is a gorgeous renovated skoolie with a dreamy bathtub, rooftop deck, and sleeping space for four adults! Tawny and Mike decided to downsize from their 5 bedroom home into a 40 foot skoolie after watching a documentary on Netflix. After selling their big house, purchasing and renovating an old school bus, they finally moved in and hit the road. Learn more about their build on their website.

Video Tour of Mike & Tawny’s Gorgeous Renovated Skoolie:

Tawny’s two teenagers also live and travel with them in the bus, part time. I’ve seen buslife with three little kids, but never with two teenagers AND a great dane! You’d think it would be difficult, but Tawny says the transition was easy.

Special Features of Mike & Tawny’s Skoolie Life:

Mike and Tawny’s skoolie can also be completely off-grid, with a solar system, fresh and grey water tanks, as well as a Nature’s Head composting toilet. Their wood stove was salvaged for only $40, and they built a heat shield around the stove for protection using metal and cement fiberboard. Many other items inside this bus conversion were reclaimed as well, saving Mike and Tawny thousands of dollars on renovation costs.

Skoolie Before

The purchase price for the original school bus was just $5,000. Mike and Tawny spent $15,000 on renovations, bringing the total cost to only $20,000. What a deal!

Skoolie Bathtub

As far as the interior layout, Mike and Tawny chose to allocate a lot of space for their bathroom. The room is coated in a feather concrete, and the flooring is lined with cedar planks. This allow the entire space to tolerate moisture, creating a wet bath effect. The copper showerhead features a hand-held faucet, which they use to fill their soaking tub. They left the bus windows operational in the bathroom to help with moisture control, and also so they they can enjoy a soak with a view! How dreamy is that? wood stove
