This charming 400-square-foot tiny home in the town of Hiouchi isn’t just a place to live — it’s a symbol of reinvention, resilience, and thoughtful living. Inspired by the spirit of Tina Turner, Jane’s home pays tribute to women who’ve faced life’s challenges, survived, and thrived. And after downsizing from a 3,200-square-foot house to this carefully curated haven, Jane is doing just that.

A Journey That Started in Mongolia

Jane’s transition to tiny living began 15 years ago after a transformative trip to Mongolia. Living with only basic necessities, she experienced a surprising level of joy and contentment. That eye-opening simplicity stayed with her, eventually leading her to Tiny Tranquility Redwoods, a community of like-minded tiny home dwellers in Northern California. When she found a brand-new unit by Mint Tiny Homes, she jumped at the opportunity — and lucked out with a 10% discount, bringing her home’s cost down to $134,000.

A Smart and Stylish Exterior

This 10′ x 40′ home blends function with flair. Jane added privacy fences, painted the exterior herself a serene green, and installed a spacious 30′ x 10′ deck with an awning. An artificial turf yard — a lifesaver for her three energetic dogs — keeps the mud out. She also added a small pet fence, making the outdoor space even more functional.

Utility-wise, the home is fully equipped. With 50-amp service, a water filtration system, and skirting to protect the undercarriage, it’s built to handle both comfort and efficiency. A cleverly disguised shed also hides the trailer hitch and propane tanks while doubling as outdoor storage.

Functional, Warm Interior Spaces

Inside, Jane’s kitchen is a standout. Warm wooden butcher block countertops, a full propane oven with a three-burner stove, and an apartment-size fridge make it perfect for her vegetarian lifestyle. While she has a full cooking setup, she often uses her mini air fryer for quick meals. The kitchen features custom-painted backsplashes and repurposed wallpaper accents that add personality and joy.

The living area is both cozy and practical. A modular couch offers hidden storage in each seat — and enough room for all three dogs to lounge. An electric fireplace adds ambiance, and the built-in wall-mounted TV saves space while enhancing comfort. With dual lofts — one for sleeping, one for storage — Jane has maximized every inch. A retractable ladder and built-in cubbies add to the home’s flexibility.

Versatile Bedrooms and Creative Touches

Jane’s downstairs bedroom has been repurposed as a workout room with full ceiling height, great ventilation, and outdoor access. Her upstairs “den” is a cozy sleeping loft, complete with a double bed, custom headboard, and cubbies for seasonal storage. The stairs to the loft include built-in storage and slip-resistant treads that Jane installed herself.
