Her latest van build, Luna, is not just a mode of transportation; it’s a statement of artistic vision, blending functionality with stunning design. Luna is Abby’s fourth van build, and she pulled no punches with this one, going all out to create an unconventional and luxurious living space inspired by Mediterranean and Spanish architecture. It’s hands down the ultimate van life build.
Abby’s van life journey began years ago, growing up surrounded by campers and DIY spaces. By the time she bought Luna, she had already built three other vans, but this one was meant to be something different. With Luna, Abby wasn’t just building a livable space; she was creating an art project. She drew inspiration from Mediterranean style—think earthy tones, hand-selected tiles, and curved, organic designs that make the van feel like a sanctuary. It took a lot of patience and vision to pull this off, but the end result is nothing short of breathtaking.
A Functional and Cozy Interior
Walking into Luna, the first thing that stands out is the multifunctional seating area. A moveable table and a clever slatted system underneath the seating transform the area into an additional bed, making it perfect for guests or a cozy lounging spot. Abby carefully crafted the space to ensure that whether the doors are open or closed, she’s immersed in the beauty of her surroundings.
A pocket door separates the living area from the cab, adding a sense of privacy and insulation. This thoughtful touch also provides much-needed quiet during drives, allowing Abby to enjoy the journey in peace.
Handcrafted Features and Bold Materials
One of the standout features in Luna is the shower, which combines handmade Spanish tiles and stone pebbles to create a luxurious, textured experience. The brass details and carefully chosen materials give the space a timeless, yet contemporary feel. Abby’s commitment to high-quality craftsmanship is evident in every corner of the van. The Moroccan plaster sink in the kitchen was a risky, but successful, design choice. It’s 100% waterproof and adds a unique, bold touch to the space.
Luna also includes a full-functioning dry-flush toilet, which uses no water or chemicals, making it an eco-friendly and practical addition. For Abby, every inch of space had to serve a purpose, so she incorporated a full floor-to-ceiling closet and extensive storage options throughout, including hidden compartments and clever drawers.
The Kitchen of a Traveler’s Dreams
The kitchen is both efficient and beautiful. Abby opted for an induction stove that only heats up when in use, making it a safe and energy-efficient choice for van life. A 12V refrigerator with dual zones ensures there’s always plenty of space for fresh food, while the air fryer and convection oven combo makes cooking simple, whether it’s breakfast or dinner.
The high-tech features of the van are integrated seamlessly into the design. Abby installed a sophisticated control panel that monitors solar power, battery levels, and even the water heater, making it easy to manage her resources while on the road. Speaking of power, Luna is equipped with a 600-amp hour lithium battery system, ensuring Abby has all the electricity she needs to run her appliances, air conditioning, and more, all powered by 400W of solar panels on the roof.
A Comfortable, Cozy Bed with Storage
The queen-sized bed is a standout feature, offering plenty of storage underneath for outdoor gear like bikes or a one-wheel. The space under the bed also houses all of the van’s plumbing and electrical systems, neatly tucked away but easily accessible when needed. Abby added a skylight above the bed, created from tempered glass, which not only lets in natural light but also adds a unique touch to the ceiling.
The van’s ceiling was another design challenge Abby took on. She didn’t want the typical wood panels that are common in van builds. Instead, she used curves and soft backlighting to create an organic, Mediterranean-inspired ceiling that adds depth and warmth to the space.
Outdoor Storage and Adventure-Ready Features
Behind the van, Abby has created a practical storage solution for all her outdoor gear. With a ladder and a spare tire carrier, along with a spacious outdoor storage box, Luna is ready for any adventure. The back of the van also houses a 42-gallon fresh water tank and a 30-gallon gray water tank, along with Abby’s advanced electrical system. This setup powers everything in the van, from the air conditioning to the lights, without ever running out of juice.

For Abby, living in a van isn’t just about the physical space—it’s a way of life that has allowed her to travel the country, discover new opportunities, and find her people. With Luna, she has found a balance between adventure and ultimate comfort, creativity and practicality.
